WATCH SERVICE

As with any micromechanical precision instrument, Hamilton watches require regular maintenance to remain in perfect working order. The frequency with which this maintenance work needs to be carried out depends on the model, as well as environmental conditions and the owner's care of the watch. While we cannot give a specific time interval for servicing, we generally recommend that a complete maintenance service be performed every three (3) to five (5) years.

To ensure that the service is completed professionally and to Hamilton’s standards, you should only take your watch to an authorized Hamilton Service Center or official Hamilton retailer.

Complete maintenance service

The following operations are included in a complete maintenance service:

  • Removal, dismantling and disassembly of movement, replacement of worn or damaged components, cleaning, oiling and reassembly, or replacement of the complete movement.
  • Refurbishment of the case and metal bracelet (polishing, satin-finishing if possible).
  • Professional ultrasonic cleaning (washing) of case and metal or rubber bracelet.
  • Replacement of gaskets and battery (where applicable) and if required replacement of the hands, crown and pushers (gold parts are subject to an additional service charge).
  • Restoration of water resistance and testing according to Hamilton specifications.
  • Adjustment and fine tuning. Checking the precision and function of the movement.
  • Final technical and visual check.

To ensure that the service is carried out professionally and to Hamilton’s standards, you should only take your watch to an authorized Hamilton Service Center or official Hamilton retailer.

Partial maintenance service

All Hamilton watches are checked for water resistance as marked on the back of the case, but the water resistance of a watch is not permanent. The water resistance of a watch can be impaired by the natural aging process of the gaskets (case back gasket, crown gasket, crystal gasket etc.) or accidental knocks to the watch case.

The water resistance should be checked once a year by an authorized Hamilton Service Center and can be restored through a partial maintenance service every one or two years.

The following operations are included in a partial maintenance service:

  • Cleaning (washing) of case and metal or rubber bracelet.
  • Replacement of gaskets and battery (where applicable) and if required replacement of the - hands, crown and pushers (gold parts are subject to an additional service charge).
  • Restoration of water resistance and testing according to Hamilton specifications.
  • Adjustment and fine tuning. Checking the precision and function of the movement.
  • Final technical and visual check.

Vintage watch services

Hamilton guarantees the availability of replacement parts for at least 10 years after the end of production of every model. Everything possible will be done to ensure that collector's items and vintage watches can be serviced. If it is not possible to service or restore an old watch, we will offer you in exchange a new watch at a favorable rate through our loyalty program.

Contact our service partners to find out more and to receive an individual estimate or contact us directly through our customer service contact form.

For vintage watches Hamilton offers an alternative maintenance service including a movement overhaul and light refurbishment of the case. Even with servicing, it is not possible to protect vintage watches against moisture. Hamilton can replace parts to ensure the watch is as well protected as possible from moisture and dust but we strongly recommend you do not expose your vintage watch to moisture by swimming, showering or bathing.
