A lifetime in flight: Hamilton and Juan Velarde

11/15/2017

In partnering with a second air racing pilot after Nicolas Ivanoff, Hamilton is strengthening our presence in the new dimension of motorsport with Juan Velarde. Hamilton is proud to have Juan Velarde as an ambassador.

Just as Hamilton has always been closely linked with aviation, Juan Velarde has spent most of his life and his entire career as a pilot and aviation enthusiast. Inspired in his love of flying by his father and grandfather, both of whom were pilots, Juan began flying gliders as a teenager, making his first solo flight aged just 16.

In competition, Juan flies an Edge340 V2 emblazoned with his race number, 26. As a genuine fan of aviation as well as a pilot, Juan also flies historic aircraft. Astonishingly, he also finds time to work as a commercial pilot for Spain’s national airline, regularly captaining the largest aircrafts.

A self-confessed perfectionist when it comes to racing, Juan describes his flying style as precise, smooth and aggressive at the same time. It’s a combination that has won him fans all over the world and brought him to the attention of Hamilton.

And what does working with Hamilton mean to Juan? “The combination of innovation and high quality that Hamilton represents is the exact combination we look for in air racing: confidence, precision, innovation and freedom of spirit.”

Juan wears the Hamilton Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono.
